There are two ways to save progress in Design Studio: publishing and syncing. It is very important to do both whenever you make changes to an installation.
Publishing saves configurations to your devices. For some devices (e.g., Ketra keypads), this is required before your changes can take effect. For all devices, this is required before your devices will preserve their configurations between power-cycles. (For more details on publishing, see Publishing: Saving Configurations to Devices.) In large installations, publishing can take a long time because it requires Design Studio to communicate with every device.
Syncing backs up your copy of the installation to the cloud, making it a quick way to ensure that none of your settings gets lost. It requires Internet access. In addition to backing up your configurations, syncing also streamlines collaboration. For more details on syncing, see Version Control Through Syncing.
Our recommendations for publishing and syncing vary depending on whether the computer making changes has Internet access.
