Creating a Show

Importing a Show

You can import Ketra shows that come packaged with Design Studio for your convenience, or shows that you have exported previously. To import a show, follow these steps:

1. Click Import Show. Clicking this button, found at the bottom of the My Shows panel, will open a setup wizard.

2. Select the show file you would like to import. Click Choose File to select the file from a list. This will direct you to a folder in which there are a number of shows curated by Ketra—including Fixed Time and Circadian (Astronomical) shows—along with any you’ve exported in the past.

3. Name your show. You can use the same name as before or give it a new one.

4. Select groups to assign the show to.

fig. 90
Note: The show will apply content to whichever groups you select, as well as all subgroups. — If you intend to assign the show to a keypad button or analog input trigger, we recommend selecting the highest-level group. As discussed in Global Scenes, Local Applications, a scene or show that applies content to all groups will not necessarily affect all groups; once you assign the scene or show, it can only affect whichever groups the keypad or input trigger controls. If you intend to set the show to run automatically, we recommend using this opportunity to select the groups you want the show to affect. Any group that you do not select here will be assigned NA in all of the show’s scenes. This effectively excludes the unselected groups from the show.

5. Click Import Show.

6. Optional: Rename the show by clicking the pencil icon next to its name in the My Shows panel.

Creating a Natural Show

Note: Ketra curates a default show called Natural, which can be found in the My Shows list. This show is automatically assigned to any keypad buttons with the "Natural" label. If you prefer a different natural show, you can either create your own using the steps below, or modify the existing show by selecting "Natural" in the My Shows list and making changes.

To create a natural show, follow these steps:

1. Click Create Natural Show. Clicking this button, found at the bottom of the My Shows panel on the left, will open a small dialogue box with basic configuration options. You can change any configurations you set here later on, by using the corresponding controls in the show’s configuration page.

2. Optional: Modify the minimum and maximum CCT and intensity. You can think of these two sets of values as being the poles between which your lighting will transition at sunrise and sunset.

  • The minimum (nighttime) values correspond to triggers just before sunrise and just after sunset. Example: If sunrise occurs at 6 AM and sunset at 6 PM, then by default, your lights will be set to the minimum CCT and intensity from 6:30 PM to 5:35 AM.
  • The maximum (daytime) values correspond to triggers just after sunrise and just before sunset. Example: If sunrise occurs at 6 AM and sunset at 6 PM, then by default, your lights will be set to the maximum CCT and intensity from 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

3. Optional: Modify the morning and evening transition start times. Use this feature to determine the times at which the “sunrise” and “sunset” transitions will begin. Each transition is a series of triggers lasting about 1 hour, gradually increasing or falling in CCT and intensity. These triggers make your lighting emulate sunrise and sunset.

  • Astronomical: The transition will begin at a certain offset from sunrise or sunset. The default offset is 30 minutes. You can change the offset by clicking the blue Show Advanced Options link, then modifying the Offset dropdown. Example: If you set Sunrise Offset to -1:00, then the first trigger in the show would occur 1 hour before sunrise.
  • Fixed Time: The transition will begin at the same time of day, every day. Example: If you set the Morning Transition Start Time to 7:00 AM, then the first trigger in the show would occur at 7:00 AM, regardless of the real time of sunrise that day.

4. Optional: Set an incandescent CCT threshold. Click Show Advanced Options to reveal this option. Use a CCT threshold for shows that incorporate incandescent loads via analog outputs. Set the threshold value to the CCT of the incandescents. When the Ketra lights in a group are above the threshold CCT, the incandescents will turn off, ensuring no mismatch in color temperatures. When the Ketra lights in a group cross below the threshold, the incandescents will turn on. If they are integrated via 0-10V output, they will then dim as the Ketra lights go to lower CCTs.

5. Name your show.

6. Pick groups to apply the natural show to. Select one or multiple from the list of all your groups.

Note: Any group that you do not select from this list will be assigned NA for every scene in the show. It is very important to note that this does not necessarily exclude the group from the show. If you intend for the show to run automatically without needing to be triggered from a keypad button, then NA is sufficient to exclude the group from the show. However, if you intend to assign the show to an input trigger like a keypad button, you must deselect the groups you want to exclude when assigning the show. See Excluding Groups from Shows.

7. Click Build Natural Show.

8. Rename the show by clicking the pencil icon next to its name in the My Shows panel.

You now have a natural show with pre-built time triggers and scenes. When running, the show will follow this sequence:

i. At the Morning Transition Start Time, the show will begin at the Nighttime CCT and Nighttime Intensity.

ii. Over the next hour, your lighting will smoothly transition to the Daytime CCT and Daytime Intensity.

iii. Your lighting will maintain the daytime CCT and intensity until the Evening Transition Start Time. (In the interim, other inputs—e.g., keypad buttons—can change the lighting state freely, triggering scenes, turning off power, and/or adjusting intensity and other parameters.)

iv. For an hour following the Evening Transition Start Time, your lighting will smoothly transition to the Nighttime CCT and Nighttime Intensity.

v. Your lighting will maintain the nighttime CCT and intensity until the Morning Transition Start Time. (In the interim, other inputs—e.g., keypad buttons—can change the lighting state freely, triggering scenes, turning off power, and/or adjusting intensity and other parameters.)
